EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ - On Saturday, October 18th, Shore Points Roller Derby hosted the Derby Night Of the Living Dead, where Shore Points' Boardwalk Brawlers took on Harrisburg Area Roller Derby in a night of hard-hitting roller derby action, held at Spontaneous Sports in Egg Harbor Township. It was an evenly matched, action packed bout, where Harrisburg claimed the victory with a final score of 128-112.

The bout got underway, and Shore Points' Ivanna Shankaho kicked things off with an 8-6 win over Harrisburg's Cybil Disobedience. In the next jam, Harrisburg's Skate Edge, who was making her roller derby debut, stepped onto the track, earned lead jammer, and grabbed 4 unanswered points for Harrisburg. The closely matched teams produced a very defensive pack, and the following two jams were scoreless. The silence was broken by Philly Rollergirls' guest skater, Miranda Slambert, who dropped a 10-0 jam over Whiskey Business. A defensive and low scoring back and forth battle ensued. In the ninth frame, Shore Points' Sheila FU-up laid another 10-0 shutout on Harrisburg's Disco Bloodbath, establishing a sizeable lead for the Boardwalk Brawlers. Harrisburg's newbie, Skate Edge answered back with a beautiful 8-0 slam on Siouxsie Bruiser, however, Bruiser returned the favor in the twelfth jam, by pulling an 8-1 jam over Skate Edge, who was sent to the box after picking up her fourth minor penalty. Skate Edge was in good form, tonight, when upon returning from the box, she scored 5 more uncontested points, and in the fifteenth jam, she took another 8-3 win from the Brawler's CRASHT'ON. Although Shore Points kept good control of the front of the pack, that didn't keep Harrisburg from adding points to the board. In the following jams, Harrisburg's Jonnie Lawless and Whiskey Business both pulled 5-0 jams over Shore Points' Sister Sinister and Miranda Slambert, respectively, and began to chip away at the Brawler's lead. The final jam of the period saw Ivanna Shankaho take a 4-2 jam over Cybil Disobedience, leaving the final score for the first period at 62-59 in the Brawler's favor.

The second period opened up with Harrisburg's Whiskey Business taking a 4-0 win over Ivanna Shankaho, giving Harrisburg a one point lead. The tension was mounting. Sister Sinister pulled the lead back to Shore Points with a crushing 12-1 blow to Cybil Disobedience, who was pulled from the jam for a cutting track major. Upon her return to the track, Cybil earned lead jammer status, and belted a 9-4 win over Siouxsie Bruiser, where in some heavy jammer on jammer action, Cybil took her to the floor, before entering her first scoring pass. Another Philly guest, Heavy Flo, answered back with a 9-0 slam on Skate Edge, taking back a good lead for the Brawlers. Again, the HA.R.D. girls pulled some minor wins, and began chipping away at Shore Points' lead, little by little. That is, until the ninth frame, where Harrisburg's Skate Edge exploded off of the jammer line in a searing 14-1 jam over Siouxsie Bruiser. The jam was cut short, however, when both jammers were sent to the box, and the jammerless jam rule took over. Taking over for Edge, Whiskey Business added another 4 points to the board for Harrisburg, over Sister Sinister's 2. The action on the track was furioius, and the audience was in suspense, as the Boardwalk Brawlers were fighting hard to take back their lead. By the thirteenth jam, they were up by 2 points. In the fourteenth jam, Whiskey Business laid an amazing 14-0 shutout on Miranda Slambert, giving H.A.R.D. a nice 12 point lead. Harrisburg's blockers were working overtime, and building some good walls, and Skate Edge was able to pull in 4 more points by the end of the game, to seal the win for Harrisburg, with a final score of 128-112. A truly exciting and unpredictable bout.
